Elder Skaggs vs the Snow - from 12/07/2018

Howdy Y’all
Sorry for the short email. I don't have much this week but I have some great pictures!

Title: Last weekend they were calling for snow, however, I never believe them since it never happens. Well, we woke up Sunday to a few inches of snow and it snowed all day. I don’t think it stopped for a second. I loved it. The snow has stuck, but it’s been melting a little bit. We still have quite a bit of snow still and it is enough to make me happy. I also have a few pictures that I’ll add.
General Authority: Wednesday we had a devotional for all the workers of the Family History Library. Before the devotional, Elder Renlund went around and shook all the hands of the young elders. It was awesome to be able to shake his hand and talk to him.

Saturday evening: Saturday evening was the best. The library is now open until 9 on Saturdays, but we don’t expect many people to visit the 3rd floor. Elder Bartholomew and I and a senior couple, the Tolmans’, were the only people assigned to work. We had zero new people and a total of like 4 people working on their own. Sister Tolman had baked some cookies and we read a Christmas story. I truly felt like I was 5 again.

Funny GA interaction: This happened to another elder and not me, but it was still hilarious. My old comp and his current comp were at the barber getting their haircut. The barber put on a documentary about fish, when an older man walked in. My old comp was the one getting his haircut and his comp was sitting in a chair. The older man sat down next to the elder and starting watching the show with him. The elder turns to him and says, “Man, fish are weird.” The man replied, “Yes they are.” Then the elder responded, “yeah, but ya know, they probably look at humans and think we’re weird too.” Not only is that hilarious in of itself, but as they walked out, my comp turns to him and says, “Do you know who that was?” Which he replied no, he didn’t. Then my comp explains it was Elder Cook of the quorum of the 12. The fact that he straight had a 10-second conversation with Elder Cook about how weird fish are is hilarious.
I’m drawing another blank today and can’t think of anything I did. I swear my life is interesting. But, it all comes into a blur now. Hope y’all have a great week!! Continue to write and email. Merry Christmas to all and I hope you have a great season.
Love,

Elder Skaggs vs A Lost Boy - from 11/30/2018

Me building a snowman
How’s everyone doing? It’s been another great week. If you read my blog then you will know that I had an email sent out last week, but I didn’t have enough time to send it out in a group email. Go to my blog michaelskaggs@blogspot.comAnyway, my new p-day for the transfer is Friday and hopefully it stays that way for a while.
Title: Last Friday, we worked the JSMB Discovery Center from 6-9 pm because everyone was at temple square for the lights. While we were working, this young kid, who was probably 12 or something, said that he was lost.  We ended up hanging out with him for an hour. His parents accidentally drove off and had to come back. We just sat and talked with him and Lance, one of the security guys who had to be there, too. They don’t trust us enough with lost kids. Haha. And then Wednesday night, we were walking back to our apartments and this lady asked us if we knew where the conference center theater was. We told her yes and then she explained that this kid with them was with a youth group, but lost them and he needed to get there. So, here we were with the assistants and my comp walking with another lost kid to find his group. His name was Stone and we definitely think there was a reason his name was Stone. He was only 14, but man this kid seemed like there was another reason why he was lost. Great kid though and he knew one of the assistants brothers. Small world. My comp and I have a tendency to attract lost kids. That sounds really weird though.

Remember the Titans: Last Friday, since most missionaries didn’t have to work, they watched Remember the Titans, however, we had to work and we missed it. Saturday evening, we got permission to go to the assistant’s apartment with the 10 other missionaries who missed it, and we had a pizza party and watched the movie. It was amazing and nice to just have the 14 of us there.
Work hours: Well, the Family History Library is open until 9 pm on Saturdays now and that means we don’t have Saturday free time anymore. I like it a little bit because that means we are actually getting more time to be doing stuff and being more like proselyting missionaries and get to act like “real” missionaries. Free time is fun, but it sometimes is really slow if you don’t have anything to do.
 Light The World vending machines
Light the World: The vending machines are now open for Light the World. The machines are something where you can buy something like a cow or backpack supplies, or chickens, or a goat and instead of you getting the item it drops down to the bottom and collects. The church then will use the money with whatever you bought and get with it’s partner humanitarian organizations and donate that to 3rd world countries. I bought mac and cheese and some fish. I hope some poor person enjoys it. A cow cost $150 and a goat is $75. I wanted to buy one of those two things, but that is way too expensive.
Service: Last night, we went all the way down to Holladay to help a senior center with doing family history. It was pretty slow, but we got to stop at Taco Bell on the way back and that was fun. I also loved being able to get out of the city and way down south.
Temple: We did a mission temple trip this morning. I enjoyed that a ton and it made me really happy to be there and feel of the spirit.
This is a great video about the atonement and the way that Christ is able to forgive us. I love it and think that everyone should watch it. I know you can feel the love of Christ and feel at peace when you repent and are forgiven of your sins.
I can’t think of anything else that happened. I hope you guys all had a wonderful week. Oh, since none of you got my weekly email last week, I want everyone to send me a list of a few things you are grateful for. I want to be uplifted by seeing the good in the world and everything that surrounds us. It can be the smallest of things or the biggest of things. But, I want to know why you are grateful in your life.
Continue to write and send me letters. I love it and I miss you all. Hope you all have a great week.
